Windows Updates need to be current.

Anti Virus needs to be installed, running, updated daily and scanning your computer daily.

"Spyware utilities" needs to be installed, updated, running and scanning your computer. Currently "Windows Defender" and "Spybot" are good free utilities to use.

Windows Firewall (XP) needs to be "on" not allowing improper ports to be opened and functioning correctly.
